PARCO SEMPIONE

Parco Sempione is a beautiful city park located in the historic centre of the city, adjacent to the gardens of the Sforza Castle and the Arch of Peace, the two prominent landmarks of Milan. I first spotted this park whilst travelling to the city center on the no. 2 tram, and after noticing several individuals on the peculiar rent-out bikes, I knew I wanted to check it out.

BikeMi is a public service, which allows users to rent out bikes for around €3.50 a day - but the company also supplies weekly or monthly subscriptions - and is a very popular way of transport in Italy. It is a fantastic way of travelling around Milan, if you're confident enough with sharing the road with crazed Italian drivers - if not I would recommend sticking to parks and quieter areas.

I would also recommend visiting the Arch of Peace, and exploring the beautiful areas around it, including lovely cafes, shops and bars and going to the park for a picnic, a spot of sunbathing or meeting new people, as is it a great way of socialising.

EXPO Protest at Piazza del Duomo

It was interesting for us to find out that many of Milan’s residents aren’t very pleased about EXPO being held in the city this year, as we experienced our first protest in a popular spot in the center, mostly consisting of students and young professionals. After speaking to a few lecturers and students at the university, who have told us even they’re unsure whether they will attend the EXPO exhibitions, it will be intriguing to see what the event will consist of and how the city will organise it and deal with any upcoming protests.
