After a series of disasters and a number of problems we’ve experienced so far in our Visual Merchandising module, we’ve finally created a piece of work considered appropriate for the course. We had a bit of a shaky start as the group we formed at the start of the month fell apart leaving only myself and Alannah, somewhat clueless about what concept we wanted to do as we kept changing ideas. We quickly fell behind the other groups who seemed to have years of experience of working with 3D rendering softwares and producing astounding pieces of work. It became apparent we were lacking the skills needed to complete this course at Masters level, which started to make the Milan experience less and less enjoyable. I would definitely recommend teaming up with students doing Masters rather than Erasmus students simply due to the fact you will struggle a bit with the workload and the high standard required to pass.
Luckily for us two members of another group also left the course, which allowed us to form a new group with a product design student - also on Erasmus - who has used 3D softwares in the past - and a Masters exchange student from Beijing studying fashion design. Together we managed to divide the tasks between ourselves creating a concept favoured by Giachi. We decided to focus on Moschino, as this popular Italian brand focuses on fun and creativity, and created some 3D renders using Rhinoceros software and adding the items of clothing using Photoshop. After receiving some positive feedback from the lecturers we felt hugely relieved, and after realising the majority of us are still doing our Bachelor degree, the lecturers were a bit more sympathetic with our situation. I’m currently trying to get the grasp of using new softwares including SketchUp and Rhinoceros as I feel it’s a good opportunity to learn to use new applications as they may come in handy in the future.
