FINDING CORSO COMO - PART 2

Following our unsuccessful and pitiful attempt at finding Corso Como we decided to give it another go, this time preparing a proper route as we didn’t want a repeat of our last endeavour. Luckily we got there quite easily; however it started to pour with rain which put a slight downer on our achievement. Before entering Como we had a look at some of the other designer stores including Dsquared2 - where we were greeted by some really unpleasant staff (who probably didn’t think much of my shabby outfit) - Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto and other independent boutiques.
I was in awe of the store from the moment we walked through the gate and the beautiful, garden-like area leading up to the shop. There was even an allocated area for wet umbrellas as a polite way of saying ‘Please don’t ruin our clothes’. The store, containing shoes from the likes of Margiela and Azzedine Alaia worth a staggering £1,300, is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to - even the pictures don’t do it justice. Filled with couture-esque pieces from Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe, that looked more like pieces of artwork, beautifully displayed on the rails, alongside jewellery pieces worth a fortune. I felt a sense of joy and sadness, to be in such a captivating place - at the end of the day it’s only a store - and not been able to afford anything.
After exploring every inch of the shop downstairs, we made our way upstairs to discover two small exhibitions including the work of fashion photographer, Arthur Elgort, and a beautiful book shop including publications on fashion, famous artists, cooking and unique household items. Every purchase was beautifully wrapped up in a specially designed Corso Como tissue paper and placed in an equally pretty paper bag.
I would definitely urge anyone who has an interest in fashion or design to visit the store as you will, without a doubt, leave utterly inspired by the surroundings.
