TREND FORECASTING

After the somewhat disastrous Fashion in the Arts lecture, I decided I wasn’t able - or wanted - to continue with the module, and quickly changed to trend forecasting as the list of modules taught in English was slightly limited. Having previously completed a trend forecasting module at BCU I was confident I would enjoy the lectures and the project, especially as the subject is taught by experienced professional trend forecasters, jewellery specialists and an Italian Vogue writer. The project focuses on creating a trend book, which needs to include 4 mega trends, on fine and costume jewellery for a season of our choosing.

Some of the things that need to be included are:

  • consumer profiles - who? what? where? when? why?

  • consumer tribes

  • any occurring sub trends within the four megatrends

  • street style around the world - drawing emphasis on the four fashion capitals: New York, Milan, Paris, London

  • key illustrations to show the intricate designs of the jewellery

  • trend origin - taking inspiration from film, art, design, furniture etc

  • the shapes, form, materials - including imagery - and key styles

  • focus on diamond, bridal and haute couture jewellery

  • jewellery geographies - focus on the consumers - Asia, Europe etc

  • top & hype fashion and jewellery designers

  • celebrities and instagrammers

  • distribution channels

So as part of our initial group research we divided the Spring / Summer 2015 fashion shows by fashion capitals - mine was to focus on trends appearing on the Paris catwalks - and had to create individual moodboards on some of the most popular trends including street style. I also researched and compiled moodboards on two emerging macro trends using WGSN and Trend Vision Forecasting.
